Care for every level of need

From a little help each morning to full care in bed, we plan care around each person, and we let residents do what they can for themselves, safely.

Dementia care

Care for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Calm, predictable days, gentle reminders, and help at whatever level each person needs.

Mental health care

Support for adults living with mental illness, with a steady daily routine and a care plan built around the person, not the diagnosis.

Developmental disabilities

Care and everyday support for adults with developmental disabilities, in a home setting with the same familiar faces each day.

Personal care

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, eating and using the bathroom, from simple reminders to full help. Residents choose their own clothes and do what they can.

Moving safely

Help walking and moving around the home, wheelchair help, and every kind of transfer, including with a Hoyer lift. Residents in bed are turned at least every 2 hours.

Medications and nursing tasks

Medication help and administration through nurse delegation, including insulin injections, blood sugar checks, eye and ear drops, wound dressings and tube feeding.

Every caregiver is trained and delegated by a nurse before doing any nursing task.

Meals and snacks

Nutritious meals and snacks every day, with help at the table for anyone who needs it. We serve food that respects each resident’s culture and background.

Family is welcome

We celebrate birthdays and holidays together, and we invite residents’ families, close and extended, to join us.

Melake is the provider and owner of Number One Choice AFH, and a Licensed Practical Nurse. Melake lives in the home and gives ongoing oversight of every resident’s well-being.

Is there a nurse at Number One Choice AFH?

Yes. Melake Kifle, the provider and owner, is a Licensed Practical Nurse who lives in the home and oversees every resident’s care. Caregivers are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What kind of care do you provide?

Dementia care, mental health care, and care for adults with developmental disabilities. Every level of personal care, from reminders to full help with bathing, dressing, eating and the bathroom. Medication help and nursing tasks such as insulin injections and blood sugar checks, through nurse delegation.

Do you care for people with dementia?

Yes. Dementia care is one of our specialties, and we have completed the Washington State DSHS training for it. We keep days calm and predictable, and we give gentle reminders and help at whatever level each person needs.

What is an adult family home?

An adult family home is a licensed residential home that cares for up to six adults. Washington State DSHS licenses and inspects every one of them. Because the home is small, residents get far more individual attention than in a large facility, and the same caregivers are there every day.

What is nurse delegation?

Nurse delegation is how a nurse trains and authorises caregivers to carry out specific nursing tasks for a named resident, and then supervises them. At Number One Choice AFH the provider is a Licensed Practical Nurse, so medication administration, insulin injections, blood sugar checks, tube feeding, eye and ear drops and wound dressings can all be done here.

Do you take Expanded Community Services or Meaningful Day referrals?
